Ohio Business & Employment Law

Our mission in offering business and employment-related legal services is to help clients develop and maintain healthy workplaces through well-defined relationships, benefiting both employer and employee.

BUSINESS FORMATION: Initially, we help clients form businesses, obtain licenses and draft the initial operating agreement(s). The formation process includes selecting the most appropriate entity (sole proprietorship, limited liability company, partnership, C-corporation or S-corporation) based on potential tax implications and personal liability. We continue by helping clients draft and interpret employment policies, procedures and contracts to avoid costly workplace conflicts. We also advise clients on the formation and proper use of advisory boards. In many cases, we can provide practical solutions and/or self-help advice that can be implemented without incurring expensive legal fees.

EMPLOYMENT RELATED MATTERS: When workplace disputes arise, we can help navigate workplace discrimination, harassment, hostile work environment and retaliation claims under the Ohio Civil Rights Act and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. Additionally, we provide guidance on non-renewal of contracts, layoffs, employee discipline, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Ohio Whistleblower Statute and the Fair Labor Standards Act (regarding wages and overtime). We also help clients implement and interpret reasonable pregnancy and maternity leave policies.

TERMINATION AND BEYOND: When employment relationships are terminated, we handle unemployment hearings, wrongful termination claims and severance agreements. We can also help with the interpretation and/or enforcement of non-compete, non-solicitation and non-disclosure agreements, which may apply after the employment relationship has ended.

ANIMAL RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS: We are specifically passionate about organizations dedicated to the rescue and protection of animals. We are proud to offer legal services at a discounted rate.

We represent clients in mediation and arbitration, and in matters before the Ohio Civil Rights Commission (OCRC), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and federal and state courts in Ohio. We provide no-charge issue assessments at your place or ours.
