We are happy to announce our new name, Barkan Meizlish DeRose Wentz McInerney Peifer, LLP, and our new Managing Partner, Mr. Robert (Bob) DeRose.
Our new name and managing partner reflect our growth over the last 60 years and our success as a national firm.
The newly renamed firm began as a practice primarily serving the Central Ohio market six decades ago, and now includes a sophisticated organization focused on union side labor law, wage and hour/overtime litigation, workers’ compensation, Social Security Disability, and personal injury/medical malpractice.
Newly named Managing Partner, Bob DeRose, leads the Litigation Division and specializes in litigating wage & hour/overtime issues pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Ohio Minimum Fair Wage Standards Act. He also is involved in Ohio election and union side labor matters.
A native of Western Pennsylvania, Mr. DeRose is a 1988 graduate of Washington and Jefferson College, with a degree in Economics. In 1991, he graduated from the University of Dayton School of Law, where he was active in workers’ rights issues. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1991 and the Pennsylvania bar in 2006.
As the former president of the Workers’ Injury Law & Advocacy Group (WILG), a national organization of lawyers based in Washington, D.C. committed exclusively to representing workers and their families, Mr. DeRose has always sought to expanded the firm’s scope to protect and represent more workers and their families. This desire is exemplified by his ability to develop and implement a robust Wage & Hour/Overtime litigation practice that has recovered millions of dollars of unpaid wages on behalf of workers throughout the United States.
Mr. DeRose has led some of the most consequential legal litigation in wage and employment history. Now as Managing Partner, the firm is positioned to continue its tradition of fighting some of the most powerful corporate and governmental institutions on behalf of working individuals and their families.
A 2017 study from the Economics Policy Institute (EPI), found that employers short their employees by $15 billion a year, which means that millions of people are paid less than minimum wage for their work.
Mr. DeRose, a former president of the Ohio Association for Justice (OAJ) (2012), continues to serve the OAJ by actively participating as a member of the Advocates Circle. Mr. DeRose is also a member of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) where he is a member of the AAJ Leaders Forum.
Mr. DeRose’s many accomplishments include:
